What is the Global Venture Forum?

This is the twelfth year that the Global Venture Forum will be held.  GVF started in 1995 as a forum for companies and entrepreneurs involved in high-tech and emerging fields of business to meet with potential and prospective Japanese partners.

Participation is for companies seeking business development opportunities and technology alliances, partnerships in Japan.  Although Japan is the central focus, GVF has fostered partnerships that ended up in China, and other parts of Asia.  Business presenters with innovative technologies, products and services will be nominated to participate from about 13 countries from around the world.

GVF is a not-for-profit, public service event, supported by the Japanese Government (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) and the Osaka Prefecture and Municipal Governments, JETRO and other organizations.

What Industry Sectors are Represented at GVF?

This year, GVF will be split into two events on two separate dates.  The first will be GVF - BIO (biomedical, health care technologies, medical devices, etc.) which will be held on September 13-14, and the other, GVF - IT (infotech, telecom, software, internet-related technologies as well as any kind of electronic device) will be held on November 14-15.

What Kind of Companies Will Benefit?

Companies looking for partners:

  • To enter the Japanese market;
  • To license or cross-license technology and know-how;
  • To establish corporations or joint ventures in Japan;
  • To help finance the establishment of a business;
  • To help finance R&D, technology commercialization, etc.

How Can Your Specific Goals be Achieved at GVF?

I. Business-Plan Presentations:

The purpose of the 25-30 minute presentations is to find business and technology alliance partners. However, summaries of technologies and objectives are mailed or sent out over the Internet to literally thousands of Japanese firms. Therefore, the audience that attends your presentation is qualified, motivated and ready to listen to your proposition. English-Japanese simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

  II. Individual Business Talks:

  (1) Pre-Arranged Business Talks:

The heart of GVF is the one-on-one business match-ups.  Presenters have the opportunity to arrange private meetings with Japanese firms, either ones you may know specifically, or with ones you allow the Osaka Chamber to arrange on your behalf. The Osaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry will do its best to find prospective business partners in their industry sector. All promotion of your company's participation are included in the modest participation fee.

  (2) Open Business Session:

Following each presentation, Open Business Talks are encouraged between the presenter and companies from the audience who are interested to initiate business contacts.

  III. Networking Luncheon:

The Organizers will host either a luncheon or an evening reception (or both) during the event to provide presenters with an opportunity to informally meet the audience and to begin to build their own business network.

How will the Presenters be Nominated?

  • Specialists from business, technical and academic fields representing over fifty organizations will volunteer their time to serve as the Nominating Committee to select presenters.
  • Nominating criteria is based on the creativity of the technology, product or service and its potential for success in Japan.
  • Up to 30 companies will be nominated from among all applicants - expected to exceed 100 worldwide from as many as 13 countries.

Who will be in the Audience?

  • Over the last few years, the audience at GVF has consisted of over 400 business people representing major manufacturing, industrial, distribution and financial companies with specific interests in the selected industry sectors.
  • GVF draws principally from the Kansai region of western Japan which is centered in Osaka but about one-third of the audience normally attends from Tokyo.
  • How Much will it Cost to Present at GVF 2006?

    It costs nothing to apply. If selected to be a presenter, there is a participation fee per presenting firm which includes most of your costs. Only after the Nominating Committee has made its final selections and notified prospective presenters will applicants be asked to pay the participation fee. Notifications are normally sent out in mid-August and applicants have ten-days in which to confirm their participation. Officially the registration fee has not been announced.  However, last year it was $US 1500.

    The participation fee includes the following:

    • Simultaneous interpretation (English - Japanese) of your formal presentation;
    • One professional interpreter for two-days full-time at all private business talks;
    • Any equipment needed for your presentation including OHP, video, LCD projector, slide projector, screen, microphone etc.;
    • Private booth for meetings including desk and chairs and any specialized equipment needs.
    • Lunch during both days of the event;

    Who are the Organizers?
